In this big big world

Japanese has always been just the coolest to me. The way the language sounds, the culture - everything about Japan fascinated me. When I visited Japan this past summer, I just knew that this was the language which I wanted to study in college. I had to know more.

Nazikian-sensei told us that this course was sometimes colloquially called "Japanese Survival Phrases," and I'm excited to learn how to actually communicate with people in Japanese. (When I was in Japan, I just gestured wildly, pointing and all.) I also look forward to learning a little bit more about Japanese culture, ranging from etiquette to customs.
But of course, with learning also comes difficulties. I have encountered many since the beginning of class. There were foreign grammar structures, a weird, loopy new alphabet, exceptions to every rule - you name it.

Learning a new language also takes a huge amount of time, and often, I find that time hard to come by. But in the end, it'll be worth it.

  1. When I was in Japanese this summer, I was doing the "making gestures and pointing" thing all the time too. :) Learning a language is never easy. Wish we can communicate with local people when we come to Japan next time.

    1. Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think we'll be just fine the next time we go. :)
